This book was something else. It was a second chance romance but the ending was NOT WHAT I EXPECTED. *pun intended*

The author says that the book began with a request to her readers: to tell her about the facts that drove them crazy about their significant other. So she wrote this book as a work of fiction, about women, friendship, relationship,s and falling out of love.

Elsie is a 42 yo woman, married for 22 years and she has 4 children with her husband. She has a beautiful house, no debts, a big family and a husband who never cheated on her, but she is not happy. So she asks her husband for a divorce because she is feeling that she settled, and she thinks that she deserves something better than that. Her husband is shocked and he leaves the house in a hurry to calm down. That is the last time Elsie sees him because hours later, she finds out that he had an accident and he died.

"Don't think people get people get divorces because of a fight. They get divorced because of all the little stuff that adds up over time. "

Fast forward 10 months later, Elsie is trying to make a life for herself and she tries to keep alive the family business because she is thinking that it is expected of her. Her store has suddenly competition when a new guy moves in her little town and he opens a more beautiful shop, with fairtrade and vegan products. She is intrigued by Kael, the new guy because he is lovely and helpful. She sees how almost all her customers stop buying from her shop because they now buy from Kael's and she is angry because Kael is hot and she is attracted to him, but she cannot pass over the fact that he is 12 years younger. But Kael knows what he wants and he wants Elsie and is not apologetical about it. Elsie is feeling guilty about her husband's death, about the fact that Kael is younger and she believes that she doesn't deserve a new beginning.

" Find yourself worthy, or stop taking up space and stealing precious oxygen "

Finally, Elsie gives in and she is starting to have an affair with Kael because she is not brave enough to expose herself for all town to know. She is missing her husband but not as a lover, but as a human, and she wants intimacy but not to be chained again.

"I don't miss you because you're no longer in my life,.. I miss you because you're no longer in this life"

Elsie wants to enjoy her freedom with someone else, while it lasts. And Kael wants the same. He is in love with Elsie but he wants her free because he knows that marriage is an obligation and ultimately, just a paper. He wants her to stay only if she wants to stay, not only because she doesn't want to leave.

"To me, the ultimate love is freedom. It's not releasing someone; it's respecting their right to never be caged in the first place, never belonging to anyone but yourself"

This book was like a piece of someone else life, and as you read, you just wonder.. "can the next chapter be about me? "
