#Beauty and the beast retelling

Until 80% of the book, I thought that this will be a 4* read but the ending was so confusing and I'm wondering even now, how did they get their happy ending.

The book is a mix between Beauty and the Beast * she is held captive by a monster, in this case, a demon, with a huge castle and a huge library, and she starts to fell in love with him*, Alice in Wonderland* the house is strange,  with all kind of doors and keys and things that don't make any sense*, and Peter Pan* the hero has a shadow and this shadow can do things without him*.

Nyx, the heroine, always thought that Ignifex is the demon that she has to slay because he is keeping her land, Arcadia, hidden from the rest of the world, under a paper sky, without sun and sky or stars to see. Her father made a deal with Ignifex, the demon-Lord of the Bargains because his wife could not have any children, so he offered his first daughter in marriage if the demon made his wife pregnant. He prepared Nyx all her life, teaching her magic to fight the demon, and Nyx grew with hate for the father that sold her and for the twin sister that was always kept as something precious.

"The truth is not always a kindness"

When Nyx arrives at Ignifex's castle, she meets him and his shadow, Shade, and understands that it is a connection between them, because one can't remember things, and the other doesnt have the power to do anything. Even though she grew knowing that Ignifex killed her mother, as they spend time together, Nyx starts to fall in love with him, because she sees that he has something kind in him, and because he is also a prisoner of his masters.

Nyx is torn between killing the man she loves and freeing her country, and because she thinks that is her destiny to be forever alone and never loved, she makes the final sacrifice and betrays Ignifex.
Igbifex has his own plans because he is not who we thought he is, and because his intentions were always pure, he strikes another deal with his masters and saves the land but he loses the girl.  But because this is a story, in the end, we have a happily ever after.
