This book wrecked me!  It was one of those books were where nothing really happens but you feel otherwise.

This is a story with a lot of love in it: a love story between an optimistic and a pessimist, and a love story between a mother and her son.
Logan is the stranger that Chloe met on the train, the one that reads, just like her, the one that made her rethink her relationship with her boyfriend.
They interact a little before they found out that she is working for him.

"Serious and stoic, and an incredible doctor. I couldn't wait to meet him"

When they found out that they are colleagues, they freak out a little and Logan tries to keep Chloe at arm's length but not because their relationship is not ethical, but for other reasons.
Logan is a broken man who lost a lot of people in his life, and now is losing his mom.

"It doesnt matter how long you think you've prepared for saying goodbyes, there's still that gut-thumping shock that that comes when you see them truly looming"

When Chloe meets Jackie, Logan's mom, they connect instantly and they became friends and then Chloe understands that her life changed with Logan, and just seeing his mother happy, even though they all knew she will be dead in weeks, made her want to live in the moment.

" People going about their business, so many of them take after day without realizing the miracle of life itself, just as I'd done for so many days of my life"

Jackie knows her son and she knows that after her death, Logan will try to push Chloe away, because this is all he does. He doesn't know how to ask for help, he doesnt know how to rely on other persons. She knows that "Life'sfragility makes all love fragile" and this is why Logan thinks Chloe is better alone, far away from him.

"He's just a pessimist, preparing everyone for the losses and not living for the blessings"
Chloe, Jackie, and Logan spend Jackie's final moments together, making every moment count.

"Knowing Jackie Hall was an honor I'd never forget. I just wished I dad longer alongside her".

After Jackie's death, Logan is pushing Chloe away, thinking this is for the best, because " Grief destroys people" but Chloe is adamant to stay at his side.
When Chloe finds the real reasons for Logan's behavior, she understands his behavior but together they decide to live in the moment.

" Let's just enjoy one day at a time, shall we? The shadows will always be waiting in the shadows."

The epilogue was painful and very f***ing sad!  I read it three times, and it broke me!

"Still, all hellos with people you love are worth it. They are all worth their weight in gold"
" Goodbye,  my beautiful stranger"
