#funny, grumpy hero, her boss
This was actually the first book I read this year but I forgot to review it :)) It was light and funny and it was all I needed after New Year's Eve and after "Something in the way" series by Jessica Hawkins *Yeah, I cannot stop thinking about it, even after a week*.
It has a very grumpy hero and a sassy heroine, and they meet in funny circumstances. Dominic is meeting his mother in the diner where Ally is working as a waitress, and they argue about the diner's rules and they both act like children. When Ally delivers at the table the pepperoni pizza, Dominic loses is mind because Ally decorated herself the pizza with an "F" and a "U " letters made from pepperoni, so he speaks with the manager and he gets Allly fired.
“Can I get you a drink?” Rude Sex Hair was back. “I don’t know. Can you?” I shot back. “We’re fresh out of the blood of children, Satan. How about something that matches your personality?” She was saying the words nicely. Sweetly even. “I’ll have a—” “Unsweetened iced tea,” she filled in for me. Bitter. Boring. Bland.”
Because his mother admires Ally's strong personality *I would rather say sassiness *, she offers her a job at her company. After his mother hires her, like in a modern Cinderella story without the mean siblings, the heroine has now a good job at a prestigious company and a good salary. But is hard to keep it together because she also has problems with her sick father and money related problems. Also, Ally finds it difficult to work with Dominic because she thinks that he is rude.
Dominic is mortified to find out that Ally was hired by his mother but after some time, he begins to enjoy their daily barter and even to miss it when he doesn't see Ally at work.
Dominic and Ally are attracted to each other, but because Dominic is her boss, and the company just recovered from a scandal involving his father and an employee, their relationship seems to be doomed. But this doesn't stop them because they became also friends and Dominic tries to help Ally with her problems.
“You want someone you can trust with your nightmares. Not just your dreams.”
Dominic has trust issues and they both act like they were in their twenties, not in their forties, but this makes the book deliciously funny.
“You stick to your ring of hell, and I’ll stick to mine,” I agreed. “Perfect solution.” She yanked the conference room door open.”
