# abusive relationship, caged, coming-of-age

Auren met Midas when she was a young and homeless girl. He saved her when someone tried to hurt her, and since then, they stuck together and developed a beautiful friendship that evolved in love, with the passing of time.

Because Midas was gifted and promised to save the land from bankruptcy, he married the ungifted queen of the Sixth Kingdom and became King. He also promised Auren that they will be forever together, and even though the queen had his ring, she will always have his heart. Auren remained by his side, even as he moved to the castle with his bride, and she became a mistress. Auren tried to hold on to her love and she hoped that things will remain the same but after 10 years, things have changed: she is now caged, *in a gold cage but still a cage * because she is the King's favorite and he wants to protect her. No one is allowed to touch her,  and she has no friends. She is in a manipulative relationship with Midas, who is now a greedy king, obsessed with gold * they all are wearing gold clothes, the only color allowed is gold, and everything around them is made of gold* meanwhile, the people outside his castle are starving.

Auren thinks that Midas loves her, and he loves her so much that he made her a massive golden cage because she is precious and he doesn't want for her to be hurt by someone, he wants her protected. She sees that Midas is no longer spending time with her, and when he does spend time with her is to show her to other people, as his most precious saddle. He is now having a dozen saddles, 11 women, and one man that he uses for his pleasure and he make Auren watch him with them. She is blinded by her love for Midas and she failed to see that for him, he is a possession, not a person.

When Auren has to make a journey to meet Midas in another kingdom, she realized that she is happy to see the sun because, in ten years, she was not allowed to go outside. We have a major twist * I cannot speak about it without a spoiler*, but let's just say that Midas is wicked, more wicked than we thought, and a change in Auren's line of thought.

The plot is amazing, but because the pacing was quite slow, I'm gonna give it only 3 *.
